Baramulla, Jun 08 (KNO) : The residents as well as the shopkeepers of Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district here expressed resentment against the authorities for failing to lift the heaps of garbage that could be seen piling up in several parts of main market Sopore. The garbage mainly plastic waste, polythene bags, mounds of domestic waste, bottles and street dust and animal waste is mounded on the roadside everywhere. The market comes under the jurisdiction of Sopore Municipal Committee. The shopkeepers and pedestrians told KNO that stinking smell emanate from the garbage. They complained that concerned authority don’t lift the solid waste from the roadside, therefore compelling the shopkeepers to burn it waste. One of the Shopkeepers, Mohd Shafi told KNO the MCS don’t lift the garbage from market side hence this “ignorance” could lead to bacterial and viral diseases on the filth heaped on the roadside. “This is all mess here, the concerned authorities do not even care,” Shafi told KNO. Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Sopore, Mohd Lateef told KNO that they too have received such complaints from the locals, adding the garbage will be lifted within two or three days. Lateef said that they will conduct a general meet with the higher ups, so that the other related issues could be discussed. “Dumping land would be allotted to MCS after the end of this month hopefully,” he added.
